Alessandro Giuliani

lessandro Giuliani is a Research Associate at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (DIEE), University of Cagliari, in the IASC (“Intelligent Agents and Soft-Computing”) group, led by Prof. G. Armano. He got a Ph.D. in Electronic and Computer Engineering, in 2012 (Ph.D thesis here). In 2007 he became a M.Sc. In Electronic Engineering, at the University of Cagliari. In 2011 he has been a visiting student at the Yahoo! Labs in Barçelona, under the supervisor of Vanessa Murdock, for a period of 5 months. His main research focus ranges over Information Filtering and Retrieval, Machine Learning, Text Categorization, and Web Mining. In particular, during his past research activities, he investigated several novel algorithms, techniques, and applications on Contextual Advertising. Currently he is focused on developing taxonomy generation, evaluation, and optimization techniques.

Within IASC group Alessandro Giuliani is also one of the supervisors for coordinating the activities and the resources related to the regional project “Study and experimentation of tools for the automatic or semi-automatic taxonomy generation for supporting vertical search engines”.

Alessandro Giuliani is currently among the organizers of KDWEB (Knowledge Discovery on the WEB). Since 2012, he is also a co-organizer of the International Workshop on Information Filtering and Retrieval (DART).

Alessandro Giuliani has also been tutor for several courses held by Prof. Giuliano Armano. Currently is one of the instructors for the seminar Object Oriented and Scripting in Python.
